THE FACILITATORS
Wren (they/them) & Joseph (he/him) are a dynamic duo who will be guiding the Youth Leadership Committee in the planning process of the Youth Pride Prom, fostering leadership skills and empowering young queer voices.
The Youth Leadership Committee is for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and allies in Grades 9-12 who are passionate about making their school and broader community a more inclusive and engaging place for 2SLGBTQ+ youth. In addition to fostering leadership skills, empowering your voice, and building community, the YLC will plan, organize and host our first ever Youth Pride Prom!
A few details about the YLC:
• The group will meet monthly starting in January 2025 (except for 2 meetings in June)
• Meetings will be a mix of virtual and in person
• Members will get a welcome kit, food, ttc tokens, volunteer hours, and a Get REAL certificate
Applicants in the Halton and Peel region and those with intersecting underrepresented identities will be prioritized
In 2023, our amazing friend Harrison Browne approached us with a generous offer: he wanted to donate his tuxedo to a student in need for prom. This sparked an overwhelming response on social media, highlighting a clear demand for initiatives that provide suits to trans and gender-diverse individuals.
And so, Gender Joy: Prom was born! In 2024, we partnered with Harry Rosen to give seven 2SLGBTQ+ high school students the opportunity to receive custom-tailored suits that reflected their unique style for prom.
